Meet Doctor Nilima Harjal. She has a doctorate in plant sciences, genetics and plant breeding from the University of Delhi. She is also a tenant at Brisbane Common Ground — View her tenant story here!
She arrived in Australia at 60 years of age and had only come to find out about art then, not knowing that the hidden talents she possessed with a paintbrush and canvas would lead her to become a successful artist.
Her life as an avid wanderer and trekker led her across Australia, from Darwin to Adelaide on a truck. Along her trip, she laid eyes on Uluru, and was mesmerised. She says the site has so many hidden stories, and that it is a beautiful, pious and sacred place.
Her artwork Stories of the Sacred Stone was chosen to exhibit at the Recovered Futures Queensland exhibition in King George Square, running from 6 to 12 October 2023. We’re very happy to report that Nilima has also sold her painting — congratulations Nilima!
