Common Ground Queensland would like to congratulate the Queensland Government on their recent announcement of a Supportive Housing Policy for Queensland as part of their Homes for Queenslanders housing plan.
As the first supportive housing initiative in Queensland, Common Ground Queensland and Micah Projects have been delivering supportive housing projects including Brisbane Common Ground for more than 12 years.
Common Ground Queensland would also like to thank the Queensland Government Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works for leading an effective consultation with the housing and homelessness sector on this policy.
This Supportive Housing Policy is an extremely important body of work that will inform future supportive housing projects, like the recently announced Southport Supportive Housing project, as well as a potential supportive housing redevelopment at Ivory Street in the Fortitude Valley.
Supportive Housing is a key housing solution for the disadvantaged in our community. It is a targeted and specific response for people who have experienced chronic homelessness, and people who are often not eligible for other types of social housing that might have preconditions for entry.
Common Ground Queensland’s CEO, Sue Pope, warmly congratulated the Queensland Government, and expressed the importance of such a transformative policy:
“Congratulations to the Miles Government and Minister Scanlon on the development of a supportive housing policy for Queensland. This policy is so important and welcomed by the housing and homelessness sector and will clarify what supportive housing is and its place as a housing response for our most disadvantaged Queenslanders. It will provide a framework to guide the delivery of more supportive housing in Queensland for individuals and families experiencing chronic homelessness like Brisbane Common Ground and Supportive Housing for Families.”
